Climbing into Lucas’s bed tonight for the bedtime story and cuddle… Lucas, who had clearly been puzzling over this question, asks me very seriously:
Dad, if you had a gun with an elasticat over the top of it, and you fired the gun, would the bullet go through the elasticat, or would the elasticat get pulled away by the bullet.
I burst out laughing.
Totally stumped me. As a Dad, I try to have answers to most questions that come up… (even if I don’t know the truth). But this one just had me baffled.
As I was laughing, I realized he wasn’t saying “elasticat”, but rather “elastic hat”.
However, this only caused me to laugh harder, because the thought of his brain mulling over this very clear picture of an “elastic hat”, which I couldn’t possibly even imagine… what does an elastic hat look like?… oh boy… it was too much for me. I laughed until it hurt. And Lucas was totally confused about why I was laughing so hard, but got caught up in it with me, and we just laughed and laughed together for about 10 minutes.
Such good stuff. I will certainly remember the elasticat.

OK, so we’re having some fun with votisodes these days. Here’s our second series. Its a cooking show. We are on a mission to make lots of new meals that we haven’t tried before. We ask our kids to be adventurous in what they eat all the time, so we figured we should take up the challenge ourselves. So… each episode will feature us making a new dish and at the end you get to vote on some choices for us to make next.
This week we made Paprika Schnitzel and Brussels Sprouts. Wait till you see Micah’s face on the sprouts - pretty awesome. ![]()
We went to Jason Jones’s Art Show on Friday night to check out his work and specifically a piece that he did based on a story that I’ve been telling Micah the last few years. The story is about three puppies (”Mo”, “Po” and “Goo Goo”) and their nemesis “Steve the Monster”.
It was great to see the work by Jason and the other artists and the kids got a real thrill in seeing Steve the Monster interpreted this way. Awesome!
