OK. Post number one from my video rescue project. Can you guess how old I was when I did this commercial?
I have been threatening for a few years now to buckle down and digitize some of my old VHS tapes before they are irreparably damaged. I knew that I had the technology to do it since the VHS tapes are so bad, I just need to dub them with my MiniDV camera and then dump them to a hard drive for safe-keeping.
Well, recently a small shop for making family videos, wedding videos, etc. opened up on 2nd street. I was walking by the other day and stopped in just to ask what they would charge to digitize a VHS tape. $30. Not bad at all, I thought. I remember the days when that used to be ridiculously expensive. I thought about it for a bit and decided it would be somewhat ridiculous to pay someone to do what I could do myself with just a few hours of effort.
So its back on! I began the project today and digitized a few hours of stuff - some of Christi’s old dance projects from SMU, some crazy video of college days, even the infamous Lola Starr (you know who you are). I have just begun, but I will try to post some snippets here pretty soon. I even have the old LJ Highlights tapes from High School. Those will be fun to restore before they are lost forever.
Stay tuned….
